Film Grain?

I found this photograph on tinyvices.com, it was made by Alfie Lee. I was immediately intrigued by the graininess and general texture of the image. Also, I thought it was interesting that a good majority of the background image was the foliage, made especially noticeable because of the film-grain feeling. I think the texture really awed me but also originally startled me so at first I focused very intently on the subject, and then on the environment.

So I tried to duplicate the texture of the above image on my own. It was originally in color and was taken with a DSLR so the features of the photograph were very clear and defined. I actually edited this on Picasa. First I changed the photo to black and white and then added "film grain" and then added "HDR-ish" and after that, I messed around with the brightness/contrast a bit. I really enjoy this style, it's got an old-fashioned quality to it and makes the photos a little more timeless.
